Portugal                                                                The Blob,  Vol. 6, Issue 5, December 2011
Saturday December 3rd, 2011

After a great Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday night hosted by a couple from school, we went to Porto in Portugal for the week-end with Kelly and Justin. The air traffic controllers were on strike so we rented a car since it's only a six hour drive. Porto is right on the coast and it also has a river running through it so it's quite beautiful. We rode up the coast and had a great view of this side of the Atlantic pond.
Unbeknownst to me, port wine actually comes from Porto so we spent an afternoon touring one of the wine cellars. The wine tasted really great (and so did the cheese and the chocolate! :)
I was pretty impressed with the level of English spoken by almost every Portuguese that I met. Apparently they don't dub their movies which I think is great. They use subtitles. I do hope that the world will continue working towards an international language but I wonder if we'll be forced to restart if another superpower takes the world by storm. Christmas is coming . . . :)
